MY DREAM HOLIDAY

There are 3 places that I would like to visit

HONGKONG DISNEYLAND

The busy yet vibrant streets of Hong Kong

The top theme park in Asia and it has been my ideal dream holiday destination since young ;

Hong Kong has always been my ideal dream destination. Not only because of the splendid array of food delicacies on display, the city has always been busling with night life. Furthermore, there are countrysides in which you can enjoy a breathe of fresh air.

There are lots of places of interest in Hong Kong. Firstly, there is the bird market at Hong Lok St, Mongkok, Kowloon. The place specializes in birds, singing crickets and cages. There is also the space museum at Salisbury Road where it is divided into 3 parts, planetarium, exhibition hall and Hall of Solar Sciences. The Water World at Ocean Park Rd offers water slides that plunge you down at 45km/h. It is a definitely must visit place for tourist and locals alike.

Japan

100 YEN SHOP (SGD$0.75)

This shop ; which is found also in Japan ;
sells a wide range of goods @ only SGD$0.75 unlike in SIngapore ;
there is only "value dollar" which is equivlent to SGD$1.05.

Japan's Golden Pavillion.

Another place that I would love to visit is Japan. Japan is rich in culture and history. The slow pace and relaxing countrysides that offers lush greenery as well as eye-soothing sceneries is definitely heart warming.

Some of the places of interest in Japan that I would like to visit are the imperial palace, Kabuki theater as well as Asakusa Cannon temple. The imperial palace is situated at the heart of Tokyo and is home to the Royal Family. The massive castle walls and water filled moats are impressive as they were back in the days of the Shogun. The Kabuki theater is home to the unique Japanese art, Kabuki. It is where you can find numerous gorgeous costumes and elaborate settings that are just wonderful to the eyes. The Asakusa Cannon temple is one of the oldest temples in Japan. There is also a long list of shops leading to the temple selling tourists goods.

PARIS

A perfect dream holiday for love birds ;
whereby places like the Eifel Tower ; is a must to visit !
Breathtaking scenery at nights and rather a splendid country to visit.

The Arc de Triomphe is magnificient at night.

The last place that I wish to visit is Paris, France. Like Hong Kong, it is a city bustling with nught life. But the main reson that I want to visit paris is because of the beautiful buildings, streets and artifacts that cannot be found anywhere else.

There are numerous places of interest in Paris that I would love to visit. It includes visiting Versailles castle, visiting Louvre Museum as well as Alpine Gardens. The versailles castle is was up back until 1661. It was designed by famous architects and still stands strong to this day. The Louvre Museum is home to 3 of the most popular art works in history. They are the Venus de Milo, Victory of Samothrace and Mona Lisa. The Alpine gardens is one of the stars of botanical gardens. It is home to more than 3,00 plants from all over the world including Morocco, Himalayas and even Caucasus.

When I was considering the sites that I used for the images and info, I ensured that the information on the sites were releveant and up-to-date. Also, this exercise allows me to make use of the different search facilities to search for my information. Most of the sites that I visit were personal websites and were not authoritative.

Pract 7

TalkingCock.com is a Singapore based website that is dedicated to humour. Firstly, the aims of the website is clearly stated. It aims to be Singapore's humour site. The site is filled with rib-cracking jokes from political to sports.

The site is up-to-date and relevant. I find numerous jokes and issues regarding our government and their actions. Some of these jokes were as recent as a week old.

The site is also easily accessed and no membership or registration is required. In other words, it is completely free. This is good as it encourages more people to visit this site and have a good laugh hassle free.

I also find the layout of the contents of the site easy to understand. Even though the site is crammed with jokes, news,pics etc. it is easy to navigate through the pages as there are buttons that help us guide our way. It is also broken up into different columns where users can easily click and read.

Pract 6

This week, we were suppose to evaluate the effectivenes of searching through the invisible web as compared to using other search facilities. The site that I would be using is Complete Planet.

This is the main site of Complete Planet:

As you can see, the site has numerous topics that range from Environment to Law. We can search for what we are looking for by clicking on the topic that is closest to what we are finding. My search topic is impact of cyber-bullying on youth. The topic that is closest to my search is Computing and Internet. However, instead of returning a list of result, I got an error. It shows that the site is not updated frequently or it was down for that particular day.

Even so, I feel that invisible web is best used for finding articles such as jobs vacancies or travel promotions. This are information that we are unable to find on normal search engines. However, I feel that it is not useful when we are searching for a particular topic as the list of result is small and might not necessarily be what you are searching for.

Pract 4 And 5

This week, I explored the different search facilities with my search topics. Some of the search facilities includes Google, Dogpile as well as Yahoo Subject Directory.

Google

Basically, when I entered my search topic, which is impact of cyber-bullying on youths, it manage to return a huge amount of sites. Even so, not all of these were related to my search topic. However, a good thing is that sites that nearly match my phrase are ranked at the top of list, making searches easier and faster.

Dogpile

Unlike Google, Dogpile, which is meta-search engine, does not have its own database. Searches are obtained from numerous search engines such as Yahoo, Google and Ask. A plus point when using this site is that we are like searching from multiple search engines but all at once. Not only that, the list of results is much lesser as compared to Search engines. In other words, our list of results is narrowed down to only a few.

Yahoo Subject Directory

Unlike Google or Dogpile, Yahoo subject directory is human compiled. In other words, the result list is much lesser as compared to Goo or Dogpile. However, yahoo subject directories contains theses and article that are not able to be found on Google or Dogpile. Even so, none og these were relevant to my search topic

My WeeKLy Reflections

This week, I learnt how to search for informations and resources on the deep web. Deep web or also known as dark matter, are texts or authoritative informations the general-purpose search engines such as Yahoo or Google cannot add to their list of webpages. Sites such as Academic Gateway and Complete Planet allows the user to search for resources fromm the deep web such as job listings etc. Below are how the 2 sites look like.

WeekLy ReFlection

During the last EIR lesson, we were asked to use meta search engines such as Dogpile and Mamma to look for information regarding our chosen topic. http://www.dogpile.com/

At first, I thought that Search Engines like Google and Yahoo and Meta Search Engines like MetaCrawler and Dogpile are all the same.Meta search engines such as Dogpile allows me to search for things at different search engines at ones. I think that this is better compared to searching using normal search engines as it narrows down the list of websites returned and also allows you to view multiple findings from different search engines at once. This saves time instead of going to different search engine and search one by one.

My Weekly ReFlections 2

Weekly Reflections 2

The topic that I had chosen for my presentation is Effect of Cyber Bullying. This week, we were asked to come up with the keywords for the topic that we had chosen. The 2 search facilities that I used were http://www.google.com/ and http://scholar.google.com/ .

I was impressed by the vast range of facilities that Google has to offer from Google videos to their advance search features. It allows me to do multiple things from the same place like viewing videos to reading email. The vast range of functions and features also minimizes the time that I have to spent searching for items. For example, the advance search feature allows me to look through a smaller group of website rather than 1 big chunk. The google scholar also helps the user to find info from books to theses. The main thing that I like about Google is its simple layout and design. Unlike Yahoo, it does not have any pictures or ads at its site. This allows me to do what I am doing without any distractions.

Purpose of the website: I think the puspose of websites such as eBay and Yahoo auction is to provide a platform in which users from all over the world can buy and sell at lower price compared to the market. It allows the user to sell whatever items at any price. The fact that it is an online sites means that users can see what other people are selling from all over the world. It is also a place to find rare and exclusive items items such as limited edition watches to autographed T-Shirts. By putting up these websites, the companies are also teaching us the fundamentals of being an entrepreneur.

Difference And Similarity: The main difference I find in the different online bidding/shopping site is the items they sell. :P Sites like these have 1 thing in common; to provide web users from all around the world a platform to buy and sell things therefore, there will not be much difference among them. All of these sites allow the users to post the pictures of their item, price and description, allowing the buyer to survey what he or she wants to buy. The sites also allows bidding which allows buyer to get items at cheaper price or buying a rare item at higher price.

WeekLy Reflections-(Pract 1)

Weekly Reflections 1
This week, we were given a task of creating our 1st blog. During the lesson, we searched the web for different internet resources, mainly discussion forum, electronic journal/news, WWW site and blogs. I also found out the different styles of writing for the different resouces.

Our 1st assignment was to spent an imaginary $500 on online shopping sites. I chose ebay as it is the most popular site online bidding/shopping site, meaning that they will have a wider range of items. It was also my first time going to ebay. Even so, I did not find it hard to navigate through the web. This is because of the easy to understand layout of the site. I think that having an easy to understand site is better compared to having a site that has many graphics. This is users will have a fuss-free time at their site and will come back for more.
